India's delivery of the BrahMos missile system to the Philippines marks a significant step in their defence collaboration. This move stems from a $375 million deal signed between the two countries in January 2022, enabling India to supply three export versions of the BrahMos missile system to Manila.

The deal encompasses not only missile systems but also includes training for operators and maintainers, along with an integrated logistics support package. This support is crucial for the Philippines to effectively utilise the BrahMos system, which consists of two missile launchers, a radar unit, and a command-and-control centre.

The delivery, made two years after the pact was signed, is a testament to India's commitment to defence cooperation with the Philippines. It holds significance, especially in light of growing concerns over China's military activities in the South China Sea. The BrahMos missile, renowned for its speed, travels at 2.8 times the speed of sound, making it a formidable asset for defence.

This milestone also marks India's first export of the BrahMos missile system, signalling its growing presence in the global defence market. Moreover, with other nations like Argentina expressing interest in acquiring the BrahMos, India's role in international defence cooperation is gaining traction.

Delivery of BrahMos Missile System to the Philippines, facilitated by an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster jet, highlights the practical aspects of defence cooperation between the two nations. This development signifies a deeper strategic partnership aimed at enhancing regional security in the Asia-Pacific region.
